Chia seeds are tiny oval-shaped seeds of grey or black colour from the salvia hispanica plant. They are native to Central America and grow well in a temperate climate.

Chia seeds are a rich source of dietary fibre, carbohydrates, protein, Vitamin B-complex, calcium, iron and other dietary minerals. They also contain omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids.
Chia seeds are edible and easily digestible without grounding them. They are used in a variety of foodstuffs, and often used as an aid to achieving weight loss.
